Space Planning

Our Facilities Planning team provides strategic planning services that support and accommodate academic and research growth while ensuring the best and highest use of campus space.

Through collaborative partnerships with faculty and staff, we help shape the campus environment by supporting approved space requests, facilitating functional programming and maintaining an accurate space inventory.

Discover how our approach to space planning supports UBC Okanagan’s evolving needs and promotes efficient, transparent use of campus resources.

Space requests

We support and work with faculty and staff on approved space requests to ensure the best possible use of campus space. Our team develops move and swing space strategies, and we create transparent space use policies that encourage units to centralize, downsize, share and relinquish unused space.

To initiate a space request, coordinate with your Dean or AVP, as their approval is required before the request can be submitted and reviewed by the Strategic Space Committee.

Functional programming

Functional programming supports the planning and development of new projects, space adjustments and submissions for UBC’s Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI). It can be initiated as part of an approved space request, independently of a request, or even in advance of one.

To determine if a functional programming request is needed, please contact Facilities Planning.
